In January 2024, BUas joined a unique European project to design the sports venue of the future. This Next Generation Sport Facilities (NGSF) project is a collaboration between the Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), IP Beja (Portugal) and BUas and is including project partners such as Orange Sport Forum and NOC*NSF. The project is funded through the Erasmus+ funding programs.
Throughout the last year, a huge variety of information was gathered on wicked problems, trends and innovations, and future scenarios for sports. The NGSF project is a great example of a multidisciplinary project where different BUas study programs joined forces to design the sports venue of the future. Since the start of the project, we used the expertise from Urban Designers from ABEL, Imagineers and storytellers from ALE, and the input from students from Sports & Esports Management and the academic bachelor of leisure sciences. This under supervision and guidance of lecturers from different programs such as Ed Ravensbergen, Marc Holvoet from ABEL and Bart Stadhouders, Marco van Leeuwen and Marco Bevolo from ALE.
“This new vision calls for a radical rethink of how we design sport in our cities, neighbourhoods and daily lives,” said BUas student Frank Langhout. “We want to normalise sport as a part of society, not treat it as a separate activity.”
