Eight Events, One Goal: €10,000 Raised for Music Saves Ukraine

Second-year students from the Leisure & Events Management degree programme at Breda University of Applied Sciences swapped their laptops for production scripts, walkie-talkies and backstage passes. The students are enrolled in the Live Music & Dance Events (LMDE) specialisation. In collaboration with 013, BUas, MEZZ, Holy Moly, Area 51, Effenaar, 160K and Phoenix, they organised eight entirely different charity events.

From carnival to rock, from urban to electronic music, no evening was the same. What they all had in common: one mission. To raise money for Music Saves Ukraine.

A Remarkable Total
And they succeeded. Together, the students raised €10,000. The funds will go towards, amongst other things, the Shpaniv School of Arts music school, where they will be used to purchase musical instruments. This gives children the opportunity to keep making music, despite everything. The embassay of Ukraine handed out a Letter of Gratitude to the students.

Organising a Real Event
This project is all about meaningful education. Not an advisory report and a PowerPoint presentation, but real productions with real audiences, real artists and real nerves five minutes before the doors open.

Students arranged everything themselves: concept, budget, programme, marketing, technical production, hospitality. And sometimes last-minute improvisation was called for too.

"When I was standing backstage at the Effenaar and everything came together, I suddenly felt it: this is what I want to do. This is what it's all about," said one of the participating students.

"That moment when the lights come up, the audience walks in and you think: yes, we actually pulled this off. That feeling is the reason event work is so addictively exciting. As the Live Music & Dance Events team, we're proud. It took energy, a few extra hours, plenty of coffee and the occasional bout of stress — but we really delivered something," said Merel Rietveld, lecturer at BUas.

Eight events. One shared goal. And a great many students who are now more certain than ever that this is their future.
