The Conseil Québécois du Loisir (CQL) is part of the associative action in leisure in Quebec, whose existence dates back to the 1940s. Arising from the will of its members, the CQL was incorporated in 1998 and has the mission “to contribute to the accessibility and the outreach of leisure in Quebec by valuing the contribution of the associative sector.” The CQL is a grouping of 39 national leisure organizations (NLOs), which bring together more than 5,200 local and regional organizations supported by hundreds of thousands of volunteers. The CQL offers its members various opportunities to get involved in relation to the adoption of democratic governance, as specified in its bylaws.
