Our university of Applied Sciences encourages its study programmes to look at each others expertises and share these with the students. This semester, second-year Events for Business (EFB) students from the Leisure & Events Management programme had a hands-on chance to dive into the world of hospitality. Working alongside the Sibelicious team from the Academy for Hotel & Facility (AHF), they applied their event planning skills to the food and beverage industry.

Workshops

After learning about the theory behind hospitality, students participated in four workshops covering topics like guest etiquette, food presentation, wine tasting, and how to pair food with drinks. The goal wasn’t just to teach them facts; it was to give them real-world practice in delivering a top-tier hospitality experience.

Presenting hospitality concepts

One of the highlights of the project was when students presented their own hospitality concepts to their peers. They turned Sibelicious restaurant into a venue for a full food and beverage experience, showcasing their creativity and the skills they had learned throughout the week.

Using cross-disciplinary opportunities

This collaboration was extra special because, for many of these students, it was their first time working directly with food and beverages, something not usually included in their Events for Business programme. The timing also worked out perfectly, as the project coincided with the study trips of first-year Hotel and Facility Management students, allowing everyone to get hands-on experience with the Sibelicious team and facilities.

This project is a great example of how different areas of study on campus come together to offer students exciting, cross-disciplinary opportunities. It also gave the EFB students a chance to put their ideas into practice and develop new skills for their future careers!
