The Bocaina Project

As of this year, BUas has launched a new project, The Bocaina Project.

Within the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the Bocaina region, three unified communities live sustainably with ancestral knowledge: the Indigenous, the Quilombalas, and the Caiçaras. Sadly, these communities are facing challenges to preserve their land, cultural heritage, and traditional lifestyle. They have to struggle daily to retain their homes and land.

Through this project, BUas intends to generate both local and international awareness of the difficulties experienced by the traditional Bocaina community and attract global attention to create more impact among the citizens and government of the Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states.

Making of a documentary

The documentary will be produced in the Bocaina region, in partnership with UFF students and the Bocaina community. During this semester, our 3rd-year CB students are engaging with the communities to connect with them and acquire more knowledge for further research. In the first semester of next year, our 2nd-year (then 3rd-year) students will continue this project with the information acquired this semester. They will revisit the region to make the documentary.

Crowdfunding

To achieve this objective and execute this project, our students would appreciate your help. They have launched a crowdfunding campaign for this project. You can make a donation via the link below. This donation will enable the students to organise the two trips to Brazil and cover expenses such as equipment, transport, and accommodation.

It would be wonderful if you could support them in making this project a reality. Visit the 'Faces of Bocaina' crowdfunding page to donate. Thank you!
