Sportief Tour from Breda Gelijk! - Accessibility can be learned

03/20/2025 - 15:21

In the past month, several activities have taken place in which students from various courses and experts by experience from LFB (Interest organization for and by people with an intellectual disability), Breda Gelijk (The platform for people with disabilities and caregivers) and Platform Breda voor Iedereen have worked together in, for example, workshops, accessibility scans and design sessions. Gaining concrete experience by analyzing and co-creating with expert experience in equality is a pressure cooker for learning about accessibility.

This week, students from various specializations of ALE helped as volunteers in the organization of the Sportief Tour of Breda Gelijk. Children with and without disabilities play sports together at this event, so that they learn to understand each other better. Mixed groups of students from Het Kasteel (children with an intellectual and/or physical disability or long-term illness), students from Koninklijke Visio (children with a visual, physical and/or intellectual disability) and students from groups 7 of the Dr de Visserschool were put to work in six different disciplines.

The ALE students supervised the games and were given the task of ensuring that no one was left behind. In this way, they gained insight into how they could get everyone to participate in sports with small interventions. It was a pleasure to see so many smiling faces, both among students and young athletes.

The collaboration with Breda Gelijk, Breda voor Iedereen and LFB leads to more and more valuable activities that fit in with the BUas challenge “to design meaningful experiences”. More activities are planned for the coming period and the upcoming year to contribute together to a more accessible leisure sector and a more accessible Breda.
